Just A Thought

Last night I was watching TV and in between my usual channel surfing I remembered that Larry King was on. I thought why not watch, you learn something new everyday right? So, anyway, on the show was James Carvel, and Governor Richardson. The two were discussing the issue of whether or not Barack or Hillary should just give up, and that they are hurting the party and all of the other stuff we here about every day. My question is this. Is the media giving too much attention to the race, and not enough attention to the issues? Has this whole thing gotten out of hand, and has the media lost sight of what the true goal is? To report the issues and the candidates. Or has the race and the fact that it is almost an exact tie the new issue? And finaly, is the presidency the goal anymore, or has the end goal become to just beat the other guy?

If you read today's headlines, the media chatter is that the pundits have switched their momentum to Hillary Clinton and away from Barack Obama. That is because of the perception that after Clinton's Pennsylvania victory, Obama is perceived as a weaker candidate in connecting with the blue-collar, white male voter as well as trying to avoid negative campaigning. Obama is seen as not as "tough" a campaigner as Clinton in this unusually long and primary season. I suspect that if Obama were to win handily in North Carolina and Indiana, the media momentum would surge back to Obama. In the cable news world, the coverage has centered more on the candidates' "bitter" and "Bosnia" slips instead of how they stand on the issues that confront the nation: the costly war in Iraq and Afghanistan and the tanking economy and how to fix health care for those who can't afford medical insurance.
